The annual event has raised $5 million for charity in its 5th year

Roseville, CA – The Sacramento Capital Cup, founded by DCA Partners’ Curt Rocca, has raised $5 million for charity as of this week.

The Capital Cup is a three-day golf tournament in which two teams compete for a $55,000 purse on behalf of their selected charities. It has occurred annually since 2015, raising significantly more dollars each year.

Year Dollars Raised
2015 $447,962
2016 $739,955
2017 $1,055,309
2018 $1,420,306
2019 $1,426,161 and counting…
Total $5,089,693

“What makes the Capital Cup unique is that participants select their own charity,” said Curt Rocca, Managing Partner of DCA Partners. “They fundraise for a cause close to their heart and hit the phones asking their peers and friends for donations.” This year, 32 Capital Cup participants, comprising some of the Sacramento region’s most prestigious (and philanthropic) business leaders, are raising money on behalf of 24 local charitable organizations. Over the course of its five-year history, the Capital Cup has benefited 48 individual charities and non-profit organizations in the region.

“Many of the golfer philanthropists involved in this event play year after year, myself included,” said Roger Akers of Akers Capital, one of this year’s team Captains. “That’s a testament to the caliber of the event, the enthusiasm of the donors, and the dedication of the fundraisers; the Sacramento region boasts a deeply philanthropical community.”

In all, there have been 65 Capital Cup golfer philanthropists, from various industries and backgrounds, seven of which have participated all five years: Ashil Abhat, Bank of America Merrill Lynch; Curt Rocca, DCA Partners; Geoff Brown, USA Properties Fund; James Beckwith, Five Star Bank; Rick Wylie, Villara Building Systems; Roger Akers, Akers Capital; and Steve Fleming, River City Bank.

Every tournament is backed by a strong team of planners and organizers, who go the extra mile to take care of the details. “The Capital Cup wouldn’t be the success that it is without the commitment of the volunteer tournament committee and team Captains. I didn’t realize how big the job was until I volunteered this year,” commented Geoff Brown of USA Properties Fund. “This kind of success does not happen by accident—it takes an immense amount of hard work and dedication. We are indebted to the tournament committee and Captains of previous years, who smoothed the way for us in 2019 and beyond.”

The individuals who have served as team Captains are: Kerry Gordon, Moss Adams and Curt Rocca, DCA Partners (2015 and 2016); Ashil Abhat, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and James Beckwith, Five Star Bank (2017); Bob Clark, Clark Pacific and Steve Fleming, River City Bank (2018); and Roger Akers, Akers Capital and Geoff Brown, USA Properties Fund (2019).

The 2019 Sacramento Capital Cup is still progressing and will culminate in an awards reception following the golf tournament on Sunday, September 29, 2019. Spectators are welcome to attend the reception at Granite Bay Golf Club.

About the Sacramento Capital Cup
The Capital Cup adapts the historic Ryder Cup format—steeped in tradition—to promote community pride, healthy competition, and raise money for the Sacramento region’s most deserving charities. Donors will have the opportunity to support their favorite player (or their favorite charity), as each player is competing to benefit his or her favorite charitable organization.
